On the night of November 17, drones attacked the Veshkayma power substation in the Ulyanovsk Oblast of russia for the second time in a month. After the attack, a fire broke out at the facility.
Alexei Russkikh, the Governor of the Ulyanovsk Oblast, and the russian Telegram channel Astra reported this on Telegram.
The governor of the region, Alexei Russkikh, said: "An attack by enemy UAVs on a substation in the Veshkaymsky District was repelled. There are no casualties or injuries. Special services are working at the site of the wreckage". According to him, the power supply in the settlements of the region is allegedly not disrupted.
At the same time, Astra informs that a fire broke out at the substation. This is confirmed by data from the NASA Firms satellite service.
According to Astra, the Veshkayma 500 kV substation is a key element of the Volga region energy ring: it connects the power systems of the Ulyanovsk Oblast, Mordovia, Chuvashia, and the Samara Oblast. Significant amounts of electricity pass through the substation, in particular from the Syzran and Zhiguli hydroelectric power plants, which are sent to the central regions of russia.
This is the second attack on the substation: the previous drone strike was on October 18.
