The European Commission has begun the creation of a special intelligence agency to strengthen security in connection with geopolitical difficulties.
This was reported by Reuters with reference to an EU spokesman and the Financial Times with reference to sources.
The EU spokesman indicated that the initiative to create an intelligence agency is still at an early stage.
"We are in a complex geopolitical and geoeconomic environment, and therefore the Commission is studying how to strengthen its security and intelligence capabilities," he said.
At the same time, the Financial Times previously reported that the European Commission has begun the creation of a new intelligence agency under the leadership of President Ursula von der Leyen, trying to improve the use of information collected by national intelligence services.
The newspaper, citing four informed sources, noted that the unit, which will be formed within the framework of the European Commission's General Secretariat, plans to hire employees from across the EU's intelligence community and collect intelligence information for common purposes.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the European Union authorities plan to create a separate Center for Democratic Resilience, which will combat disinformation from russia and other authoritarian regimes.
Meanwhile, the European Commission and Belgium have not yet reached a breakthrough in negotiations on a "reparation loan" for Ukraine.
