The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine raised the Czech flag after the new Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Tomio Okamura ordered to remove the Ukrainian flag from the building of the Chamber.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada has announced this on November 7.
"Today in the Ukrainian parliament, next to our national flag, there is the national flag of the Czech Republic. As a sign of gratitude to the Czech people for their tremendous help and support for Ukraine, which has been subjected to hostile russian aggression. For empathy. For solidarity," he said in a statement.
Stefanchuk emphasized that Ukrainians will not forget the shelter provided by the Czech Republic to Ukrainians, the flags of Ukraine throughout the Czech Republic, the visit of the Speaker of the Czech Senate Miloš Vystrčil to frontline Kyiv in April 2022, the determination of the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Markéta Pekarová Adamová and the Crimean Platform in Prague, as well as the Czech initiative.
"I also want us to always remember Moscow's criminal role in the partition of Czechoslovakia in 1938 and the Prague Spring, which it drowned in blood in 1968. Because, as the first President of the modern Czech Republic, Václav Havel, said: "Russia, of course, still does not know where its borders are," Stefanchuk quoted.
He also called for responsibility for words, deeds and the future.
On November 6, the new speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, Tomio Okamura, ordered to remove the Ukrainian flag from the building of the Chamber, which had been hanging there as a sign of solidarity since February 2022. He posted a video of the removal of the Ukrainian flag on X.

Novinky reported that as soon as Okamura ordered the Ukrainian flag to be removed from the House of Representatives, some factions began to hang their own flags in the colors of Ukraine from the windows of the building - now there are three from ODS, STAN and Piratu.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, far-right politician Filip Turek said that the new Czech government headed by the presumptive Prime Minister Andrej Babiš may reduce support for Kyiv.
In the Czech Republic, the party of former Prime Minister Andrej Babiš ANO, known for its pro-russian positions, won the parliamentary elections. After 100% of the votes were counted, it gained more than 34% and got a chance to form a new government.
In addition, Budapest is planning to form an anti-Ukrainian alliance with Slovakia and the Czech Republic, in order to coordinate common positions and present a united front during meetings and summits of the European Union.
