Construction of Ukraine's second Euro-track has begun in the Lviv Region, which will run from the border with Poland to Sknyliv. This was announced by the head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration Maksym Kozytskyi on the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksii Kuleba and the European Commission's Director for Transport Magda Kopczynska launched the construction of a European-standard track in our region. The new track will run from the border with Poland to Sknyliv. The European Commission has already allocated EUR 73.5 million in grant funds for the implementation of this project," he said.
According to Kozytskyi, the construction is planned to be completed by 2027. He noted that this will be the second Euro-track in Ukraine, the first modern Euro-track Chop - Uzhhorod already carries passengers to Bratislava, Košice, Budapest and Vienna.
The Ministry of Community and Territorial Development reported that on November 6, during the Ukraine-EU Transport Dialogue, a ceremony was held in Uzhhorod to award a grant agreement between JSC Ukrzaliznytsia and the CINEA agency of the European Union within the framework of the EU Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Program.
The agreement provides for the provision of EUR 73.5 million in grant funding for the implementation of the project to introduce a European track from Lviv to the Polish border (1,435 mm) on the section - Mostyska II - Sknyliv (Lviv) (the first stage of construction). The project involves the construction of about 80 km of European standard railway track (1,435 mm) from the Polish border to Sknyliv near Lviv.
The implementation of the first stage is planned to be completed by the end of 2027. The project will create a direct and compatible connection between Ukraine and the European TEN-T network, will contribute to the development of logistics, trade and integration of the Ukrainian transport system into the common European space.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in September, the opening of the Uzhhorod - Chop section of the Eurorail was held at the Uzhgorod railway station, the length of this track is 22 kilometers. Thus, Uzhhorod became the first regional center connected to Bratislava, Košice, Budapest and Vienna thanks to the track, which is part of the European network. Further, the Eurorail will be built to Lviv.
