The United States cut more than 150,000 jobs in October, the largest decline in a single month in more than 20 years. This is according to a report by Challenger, Gray & Christmas, a company that helps former employees transition to new jobs, Reuters reported on Thursday, November 6
The publication writes that since the beginning of the year, employers have announced 1,099,500 job cuts, which is 65% more than 664,839 in the same period last year. At the same time, the number of layoffs in October increased by 175% compared to last year.
"Tech firms led the job cuts in the private sector, followed by retailers and the services sector," said Andy Challenger, chief revenue officer at Challenger, Gray & Christmas.
In October, the main reason for layoffs was cost cutting, followed by artificial intelligence such as DOGE Impact.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the US will reduce the number of flights by 10% at 40 major airports due to air traffic safety problems caused by the protracted government shutdown..
On November 5, the US Senate again failed to get enough votes to unblock the process of ending the government shutdown.
On October 14, US House Speaker Mike Johnson said that the government shutdown may take longer than any previous one.
