Speaker of US House of Representatives warns that current shutdown could be the longest in history

The Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson said that the ongoing government shutdown could drag on longer than any previous one. This is reported by the AP.

"We are approaching one of the longest shutdowns in American history," Johnson said, emphasizing that he would not negotiate with Democrats until they give up their demands in the field of health care.

The politician also noted that he did not know the details of the dismissal of thousands of federal employees, which was initiated by the administration of President Donald Trump. Meanwhile, the House of Representatives remains without work, and Johnson refuses to convene lawmakers in Washington.

Recall, on October 1, the US federal government partially stopped working due to the lack of agreements between Congress and the White House on funding - the so-called shutdown.

American media previously reported that the situation could complicate negotiations on the supply of weapons between Ukraine and the United States. At the same time, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stated that the shutdown did not affect the planned bilateral meetings.

On October 7, the US Senate failed to pass bills that would allow the restoration of funding for government structures and the end of the shutdown.
