Company of owner of Kryvorizhstal transports sanctioned russian oil

The energy company of the Indian billionaire, British resident Lakshmi Mittal in India bought russian oil transported by vessels under international sanctions.

This is reported by the LB.ua publication, referring to the results of the Financial Times analysis of satellite images, shipping data and customs documents.

"The oil was transported by vessels from the US sanctions list - from July to September from the Arctic port of Murmansk to the Gulf of Oman. The last stage of the journey to India was carried out by the tanker Samadha, which is not under US sanctions, but was blacklisted by the EU," the publication says.

According to the publication, the Guru Gobind Singh oil refinery in Punjab, owned by the HPCL-Mittal Energy (HMEL) joint venture, received at least four shipments of crude oil worth about USD 280 million this year.

Most of the oil was transported from russia by vessels on the sanctions list.

All of the vessels involved in the transport tried to hide their route - they turned off their transponders or transmitted false location data.

It is not known who organized the transportation of the oil, and whether HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited knew about the use of these vessels.

As noted by Emily Kilkris, director of the Center for a New American Security, buyers should check the entire supply chain to avoid even indirect participation in sanctions activities.

Lakshmi Mittal, known as the executive chairman of ArcelorMittal, the world's largest integrated steel and mining group, has built a business empire spanning the globe.

The billionaire, who has been on the board of directors of Goldman Sachs since 2008, told colleagues earlier this year that he intended to leave the UK due to changes in tax rules.

Earlier it became known that the russian oil tanker Furia, which was heading to India, unexpectedly changed course in the Baltic Sea and is now idling.

The incident occurred on October 28 in the Fehmarn Belt between Germany and Denmark.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on October 22, the US imposed new sanctions against russia due to Moscow's lack of serious readiness for a peaceful settlement of the war in Ukraine.

The largest russian oil companies - Rosneft and Lukoil, as well as their subsidiaries in russia, were included in the "black list".

Violation of the sanctions provides for civil and criminal penalties for US citizens and foreigners.
