Paris Court of Appeal denies NABU and SAPO extradition of Kostiantyn Zhevaho

The Paris Court of Appeal has denied the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) a request to extradite Ukrainian businessman and former MP Kostiantyn Zhevaho. This was reported by Kostiantyn Zhevaho's press service.

According to the court, the appellate body in Paris, having reviewed the materials provided by NABU, SAPO and lawyers, did not conclude that the Ukrainian side can guarantee that Kostiantyn Zhevaho will appear before a "court that provides fundamental guarantees of procedural fairness and protection of human rights."

Kostiantyn Zhevaho's press service stated that the court did not accept the arguments of the Ukrainian side regarding guarantees to ensure the businessman's right to a fair and impartial trial, recognizing that there are significant risks of violation of his fundamental rights.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the High Court of England and Wales issued an order to seize the assets of Kostiantyn Zhevaho, the former owner of JSC Bank Finance and Credit, a bank whose liquidation began in 2015.

The State Bureau of Investigation completed the investigation of criminal proceedings against former top officials of the bank Finance and Credit, owned by Zhevaho, on suspicion of embezzlement of the financial institution's property in the amount of more than UAH 608 million.

In 2024, the High Anti-Corruption Court arrested Kostiantyn Zhevaho in absentia.
