US President Donald Trump is preparing to impose tougher sanctions on the aggressor country russia. They should force russian dictator vladimir putin to the negotiating table.

According to Bloomberg, the US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker made such a statement.

According to him, the United States has imposed sanctions against russia and plans to adhere to them.

"This will maybe be the thing to unlock President Putin coming to the table and ending this war, and at least entering into a ceasefire so we can negotiate a final resolution," said Whitaker.

He added that the latest US sanctions are just the beginning.

"President Trump holds all the cards, this is just one card that he’s playing. There are many more," Whitaker emphasized.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on October 22, the US Treasury Department announced new sanctions against russia. The restrictions were imposed on Rosneft and Lukoil, as well as their 34 subsidiaries.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Trump was offered three options for sanctions against russia. The American leader chose the moderate option.
