The United States sanctions against russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil will reduce the russian federation's oil revenues by USD 5 billion. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Suspilne reports.
He said that US President Donald Trump has imposed "really effective" sanctions against russia.
"The fact that the "russians", in particular, in the person of the special envoy of the russian dictator Kirill Dmitriev, are indignant and claim that these sanctions will not work at all shows that they will work very strongly. That is why they were introduced by the President personally, and not through Congress. He can cancel them and, probably, will use them as a tool of pressure or dialogue with the "russians". We believe that these sanctions will reduce their benefits by at least USD 5 billion a month," the President said.
Although the losses of the russian federation named by the partners have not yet been confirmed by Ukrainian intelligence, Zelenskyy suggested that the US decision will affect russian oil exports by approximately 56-57%. He expects that clear data on the consequences of the sanctions will be available in a month, and stressed the need to prevent attempts to circumvent the restrictions.
"We need to pay attention to the crew and physically sanction them. We also need to control if the tanker is taking a different route. Sanctions should act in such a way as to physically stop all oil transportation. Check the tankers' documents, apply sanctions against the captains and crews. Then it will work," Zelenskyy said.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on October 22, the US Department of the Treasury announced new sanctions against russia. The restrictions were imposed against russian oil giants Rosneft and Lukoil, as well as their 34 subsidiaries.
