Trump arrives in Japan: golden age of alliance, Nobel nomination and compliments to Prime Minister

Today, October 28, US President Donald Trump is visiting Japan - this is his first meeting with the new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. Both leaders signed an agreement on the implementation of the "golden age" of the alliance of their countries. Among other things, Takaichi told Trump that she would nominate him for the Nobel Prize.

This is reported by the Associated Press.

Thus, on October 28, Trump arrived at Akasaka Palace in Tokyo to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. The American delegation also includes Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent.

Posing for photos, Trump shook Takaichi's hand and said, "That's a very strong handshake."

Also part of the American delegation was White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who told the Japanese Prime Minister, "Congratulations, we're very happy for you."

The White House said Takaichi told Trump that she was nominating him for the Nobel Prize. The publication notes that such actions have become commonplace among foreign leaders seeking to impress Trump.

The two leaders signed an agreement to implement the "golden age" of their countries' alliance. The document, which was presented after the signing, was less than a page long.

Trump and Takaichi then signed a second agreement, outlining a framework for cooperation between the United States and Japan to secure supplies of critical minerals and rare earth elements.

It is noted that Japanese officials parked three American cars near Akasaka Palace, where they met and signed trade agreements, a gold Ford F-150 and what appeared to be two white Toyotas made in the United States.

The cars were intended to impress Trump, who wants allies, including Japan, to buy more American goods. When he learned about the possibility of using the Ford F-150 during his visit, Trump praised the idea and the Japanese Prime Minister herself.

During a flight to Asia aboard Air Force One, the President said, "She has good taste" and noted, "That's a cool pickup truck."

Takaichi also told Trump that her country would give Washington about 250 additional cherry blossom trees next year in honor of the country's 250th anniversary, as well as fireworks from Akita Prefecture for the July 4, 2026 celebration.

Trump congratulated the Japanese Prime Minister on becoming the first woman to hold the position, saying, "This is a great event. You're going to be one of the best Prime Ministers."

The US President particularly expressed admiration for Takaichi, telling her,

"We're going to do everything we can to help Japan. You're going to do a fantastic job, and we're going to have a fantastic relationship," he said.

The US President told Takaichi that his offer to support Japan in any situation extends to any "services you need."

Recall that on October 21, a woman was elected Prime Minister in Japan for the first time - the new leader of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, Sanae Takaichi. She received a majority of votes in the upper and lower houses of parliament.

The new Japanese Prime Minister chose the Coalition of the Willing as her first international event.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump considers Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to be the main possible candidates for the 2028 presidential election. At the same time, he admitted that he himself would "be happy to run" again.
