Russia knocks out 12 out of 20 billion cubic meters of gas production in Ukraine - expert Vakulenko

Russia knocked out a significant part of Ukraine's gas production, namely 12 out of 20 billion cubic meters.

This was stated on the air of the Deutsche Welle television and radio company by Serhii Vakulenko, a senior research fellow at the Carnegie russia Eurasia Center in Berlin, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"Ukraine's total gas production was 20 billion cubic meters of gas per year, now 12 billion cubic meters have been stopped, that is, only 8 billion cubic meters remain," Vakulenko said.

According to the expert, these 12 billion cubic meters of gas should go to Ukrainian consumers from Europe.

Vakulenko added that, perhaps in a smaller volume, perhaps some industrial consumption will be stopped, but Ukraine will receive gas from the European portfolio.

He noted that the level of filling of gas storage facilities in Germany this season is much lower than in the previous two.

The same story applies to Ukrainian gas storage facilities, that is, this is a certain problem.

"To some extent, the situation was such that, last year, we panicked, we were overfilled, and now there is no such need, we saw that there was no particular problem, problems are always solved, and the winters were quite warm," Vakulenko said.

He suggested that then there was such an overreaction in one direction, and now, on the contrary, there has been a relaxation, and this situation adds to anxiety, interest and uncertainty.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the US has imposed new sanctions against leading russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil.

The restrictions are aimed at increasing economic pressure on the Kremlin due to its war against Ukraine.
