The aggressor country russia is preparing to legalize the work of the seaport in the occupied city of Berdiansk, Zaporizhzhia Region. The head of the Center for Occupation Studies Petro Andriushchenko announced this today, October 21.
According to him, the day before, russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree on the creation of a permanent multilateral cargo checkpoint in the port of Berdiansk. The Federal Agency for the State Border Development (Rosgranstroy) has been entrusted with the relevant work. They should be completed by the end of 2026.
The occupiers want the seaport in Berdiansk to have a capacity of about 4,800 crew members per year and more than 200 cargo ships upon completion of the work. In addition, the annual cargo turnover will be about 1.5 million tons
The implementation of these works will allow the occupiers to integrate the port into the russian transport system. They will also try to legalize the export of grain, metal and other goods from the occupied territories of Ukraine.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in March 2023, russians resumed the work of the port in the occupied Mariupol, Donetsk Region.
And already in 2024, the invaders transported more than 350,000 tons of cargo through the occupied port in Mariupol.
