The scheduled meeting between US Secretary of State Mark Rubio and russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, which was to take place this week, has been postponed indefinitely.
It was reported by CNN, citing its own sources.
The talks between Rubio and Lavrov were supposed to be a preparatory stage for the summit between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Budapest, but due to unknown circumstances, the meeting was canceled.
According to CNN, this may also affect the schedule of the upcoming meeting between the two presidents - although it is unclear whether it will be postponed.
According to sources, last week Rubio and Lavrov already spoke on the phone to discuss steps to resolve the war in Ukraine. At the same time, the American side believes that moscow's position remains "tough and shows no signs of change," which could be one of the reasons for the postponement of the talks.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on October 16, US President Donald Trump said he had a phone conversation with russian dictator putin. They agreed to hold a meeting in Budapest.
On the same day, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Budapest was ready to organize a meeting between Trump and Putin.
Bulgaria is ready to open its airspace to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's plane, so that he can fly to Budapest to meet with US President Donald Trump.
