Russia has updated its tactics of attacking the Ukrainian energy system. If earlier the enemy launched 100 missiles at large substations, now smaller distribution substations and local infrastructure are under attack.

The Chairman of the Board of Ukrenergo, Vitalii Zaichenko, said this at the Kyiv Economic Forum, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

Zaichenko explained that since September, the russians have been attacking distribution substations, Ukrzaliznytsia facilities, and then Ukrenergo substations, especially in the frontline regions. According to him, a number of strikes were particularly heavy in the Sumy and Chernihiv Regions.

"Now the Russians are using scorched earth tactics with the energy sector, so a large number of drones are attacking every day," the head of the company said.

At the same time, Zaichenko drew attention to the long-term consequences of the war for the energy system: it was built for the needs of large industry and turned out to be outdated for the current conditions. Now consumption has become more volatile, cheaper energy storage technologies are being developed, so a wider distributed generation is needed - less vulnerable to attacks.

As a reminder, emergency power outages were introduced in Kyiv and the Kyiv Region.

Before that, Zaichenko stated that emergency power outages in Ukraine could continue for another week.
