A group of armed men wearing unusual uniforms was spotted on the Estonian-russian border - local border guards called them "green men." The incident occurred in the evening of October 10 in the Saatse area, where part of the road passes through the territory of russia.
According to ERR, patrols of the Estonian Police and Border Guard Department recorded "noticeably more active activity on the Russian side than usual". In particular, several armed groups were seen moving along the border and even lined up across the road.
As a result of the October 11 incident, Estonian authorities temporarily restricted traffic through the Saatsa Boot section. Cars heading to the area were stopped and warned of potential danger.
The police noted that the uniforms of the men "did not correspond to the border guard", so they took additional security measures to prevent provocations.
The Estonian side appealed to russia to explain the activity near the border. Moscow replied that these were "absolutely normal measures." Tallinn, on the other hand, emphasized that the actions of the border guards were preventive and necessary to protect citizens.
The event took place against the backdrop of other incidents: earlier, several russian military aircraft violated Estonian airspace. They stayed over the country's territory for about 12 minutes, after which they were escorted by NATO aircraft and left the airspace.
As the Ukrainian News earlier reported, in April, Vilnius Mayor Valdas Benkunskas unveiled a full-scale evacuation plan in case of expansion of russian aggression from Ukraine to Lithuania.
On May 13, European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius said that a truce or a prolonged peace in Ukraine would bring a full-scale war between russia and the European Union closer.
