Germany is expanding the powers of the police and is waiting for parliament to approve a law that authorizes law enforcement officers to shoot down drones in cases of acute threat or serious harm. According to Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, a special anti-drone unit will be created in the Federal Police, whose employees will be advised by experts from Israel and Ukraine.
"Incidents with drones threaten our security. We will not tolerate this. We are strengthening the powers of the Federal Police so that in the future we can detect and counteract drones more quickly," Chancellor Friedrich Merz said.
To do this, they will use a laser or jamming of drone signals to disrupt control and navigation channels. German police will shoot down drones flying at about tree level, while the military will shoot down more powerful drones.
