President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine to Andriy Parubiy, a member of the Verkhovna Rada from the European Solidarity party, former speaker of the Verkhovna Rada (2016-2019), posthumously. This is stated in decree No. 739 dated October 1, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"For outstanding personal merits in the formation of independent Ukraine and strengthening its statehood, many years of political and public activity, I decree: to award the title of Hero of Ukraine with the award of the Order of the State to Andriy Volodymyrovych Parubiy, MP of Ukraine (posthumously)," the decree states.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in September, an electronic petition to Zelenskyy with a request to posthumously award the title of Hero of Ukraine to Parubiy gained the 25,000 votes necessary for consideration.
On August 30, an unknown person in Lviv fired eight shots at a member of the Verkhovna Rada, former speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy, as a result of which the victim died on the spot.
On August 31, the suspect's whereabouts were established, he was detained in the Khmelnytskyi Region. On September 1, the suspect in Parubiy's murder gave his first testimony.
At the end of September, the case of the murder of former speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, MP Andriy Parubiy was transferred to the Security Service of Ukraine for investigation.
