The United States has already finalized with Canada and Germany the content of the third and fourth packages of defense support for Ukraine under the PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) initiative, with the delivery of the first two packages beginning in mid-September. This is stated in the report of the Office of the President, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
According to the report, six NATO member states have already financed four defense support packages for Ukraine totaling more than USD 2 billion under the PURL initiative.
This initiative, created jointly by NATO and the United States, was launched in August this year
The first package was funded by the Netherlands for USD 578 million, the second by Denmark, Norway and Sweden for USD 495 million, the third by Germany for USD 500 million, and the fourth for USD 500 million was announced by Canada.
"Delivery of the first two packages began in mid-September. In addition, the United States has already finalized with Canada and Germany the content of the third and fourth packages," the statement said.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that the PURL program is already working
"The program is working, it is very actively helping, this is the program that allows us to buy American weapons at the expense of partners in the Alliance. And these are such things as missiles for Patriots, missiles for Himars," the President emphasized.
The President's Office reports that the US side is currently finalizing the fifth and sixth packages with Ukraine, while work has begun on filling the seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth packages. Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Luxembourg, Belgium, and Iceland have declared their readiness to make contributions to the fifth package.
Ukraine expects to add more to the program in October, and the overall goal is to add a billion dollars a month.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, according to media reports, on September 18, the first batch of weapons and military equipment arrived in Ukraine under the PURL mechanism, which provides for the purchase of weapons from the United States at the expense of NATO countries and their subsequent transfer to Ukraine
