The first batch of weapons and military equipment under the PURL mechanism (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) has arrived in Ukraine. It involves the purchase of weapons from the US by their NATO allies and their subsequent transfer to Ukraine.
Suspilne reported this with reference to an unnamed NATO representative.
The publication's interlocutor confirmed that today the first military equipment under the PURL mechanism is already in Ukraine.
According to him, four packages of military aid for Ukraine were financed under the PURL program. The rest of the equipment is "already on its way," the publication's interlocutor added.
He did not specify what exactly Ukraine received in the first package of aid under the PURL mechanism.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on September 17, Reuters wrote that the US presidential administration approved the first package of military aid to Ukraine, which is purchased with partners' funds.
In early August, it became known that the United States and its NATO allies were working on creating a joint account from which military aid to Ukraine would be paid.
The new scheme for the supply of American weapons to Ukraine became known in mid-July. Then, US President Donald Trump announced that Washington would sell weapons worth USD 10 billion to its allies. Then it would be transferred to Ukraine.
