Hungary has no intention of refusing to buy energy resources from the aggressor country of russia, despite the US demand for its NATO allies to stop importing russian oil.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said this in an interview with the British publication The Guardian.
"For us, energy supplies are a purely physical question. It can be nice to dream about buying oil and gas from somewhere [besides Russia] … but we can only buy from where we have infrastructure," Szijjártó said.
According to him, the location of the infrastructure shows that without supplies from russia it is impossible to ensure a secure supply of Hungary.
According to The Guardian, the Hungarian state-owned company MOL imports about 5 million tons of oil annually through the Druzhba oil pipeline. Crude oil is delivered through it to oil refineries in Hungary and Slovakia.
European leaders are urging Hungary and Slovakia to stop buying russian oil, but their calls are being ignored.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on September 4, US President Donald Trump said that European countries should stop buying russian oil, which helps finance the war against Ukraine.
As we will recall, on September 5, European Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen said that the European Union's plan to stop buying russian oil remains in effect.
