Oil refinery strikes spark fuel crisis in russia, private gas stations hit hardest — Reuters

The aggressor country russia is experiencing shortages of a number of brands of automotive fuel amid Ukraine's campaign of strikes on oil refineries. Private gas stations are suffering from this, as they are unable to stock up on fuel.

Reuters reported this, citing its own sources.

Since the beginning of August, Ukraine has intensified strikes on oil refineries, oil depots and other facilities of the russian oil refining industry. The aim of such strikes is to reduce revenues from oil and oil product exports, as well as to cause public discontent due to the fuel shortage.

Reuters writes that russia has a large surplus of diesel fuel, but its gasoline production meets domestic demand. Ukraine's recent attacks have led to a 20% drop in oil refining on some days. This could lead to a fuel shortage.

The regions of the Far East and the occupied territories of Ukraine were the first to feel the shortage of gasoline. Currently, there is a fuel shortage in the Volgograd Oblast, as well as in the regions of the south and center of russia. There are no long queues at gas stations, but gasoline brands such as 92nd and 95th are often missing.

The agency's sources said that gas stations owned by vertically integrated oil companies continue to operate as usual. The main part of the blow from the reduction in oil refining was borne by private gas stations, whose share is about 40% by volume. They do not receive enough gasoline due to high interest rates. For this reason, in some regions of the russian federation, such gas stations are closed for an indefinite period.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on the night of September 17-18, the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked an oil refinery in the Volgograd Oblast. In August, it was hit twice.

And on the night of September 14, Ukrainian drones attacked the Kirishinefteorgsintez enterprise in the Leningrad Oblast. It is one of the five largest russian refineries. As a result of the strike, the enterprise lost 25% of its processing capacity.
