Price of electricity for population without PSO would be about UAH 10 per kW – D.Trading director

The price of electricity for the population without PSO would be about UAH 10 per kW.

This opinion was expressed by the commercial director of D.Trading company Dmytro Maliar in Andrii Zhupanin's program on his Youtube channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"Currently, we have a special price for the population of UAH 4.32 for the daytime price and half the evening price. If you were a supplier of electricity to the population and if the population worked in the free market, what would the price of electricity for household consumers be?" Zhupanin asked Maliar.

Answering the question, Maliar said that the price would be the same as currently in effect in the commercial segment, namely UAH 10 per kW.

Currently, Ukraine has a PSO (imposition of special obligations to ensure general public interests in the process of functioning of the electricity market) introduced by the Law of Ukraine "On the Electricity Market".

A non-exclusive list and mechanism of PSO are provided for in Section XIII of the Law of Ukraine "On the Electricity Market".

The PSO mechanism provides for the imposition of special obligations by the state on individual market participants in order to achieve a certain goal - protecting general public interests, namely protecting the population from a rapid increase in electricity prices or supporting electricity producers from renewable sources with the aim of implementing "green" generation projects, etc.

The use of such precautionary measures by the state is intended to compensate for the negative consequences of the implementation of new market rules in the electricity sector.

Its purpose is to avoid the negative impact of the implementation of the electricity market in the form of a sharp increase in electricity prices for household consumers.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Cabinet of Ministers increased the electricity tariff for the population by 63.6%, from UAH 2.64 to UAH 4.32/kWh from June.

The new tariff is valid from June 1, 2024 to April 30, 2025.

To date, tariffs for the population remain unchanged.
