India becomes largest buyer of Ukrainian peas

India is the largest importer of Ukrainian peas.

President of the Ukrainian Bean and Soybean Association Antonina Skliarenko reported on the air of Suspilne Novyny that in 2025 China also opened its market for this product, and its first deliveries to China are currently being approved.

"During the years of the war, production has increased every year. The first reason is the buyer India, which has always been the largest importer of Ukrainian peas," she said. "For the last three years, they have abolished import duties on peas, and this stimulates an increase in purchase prices."

Skliarenko added that this year a protocol was signed between China and Ukraine on the possible export of peas to China.

And now the procedure for exporting peas to China is in the final stage.

The President noted that we export the most peas to India.

Ukraine, according to Skliarenko, ranks 6th-7th among exporters, and before the war we were among the three largest exporters of peas.

Now there is every chance to catch up, as the increase in export opportunities stimulates Ukrainian farmers to increase the area sown with peas.

This year, more than 600,000 tons of peas have already been harvested from 266,000 hectares, which is a third more than last year.

At the same time, domestic consumption of peas is 70,000-75,000 tons per year.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on March 6, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy signed an important agreement with the People's Republic of China on the supply of wild-caught aquatic products (fish and seafood caught in natural water bodies) and the supply of peas to the Chinese market.
