US President Donald Trump has called on the Afghan authorities to hand over Bagram airbase to the United States.
He wrote about this on the Truth Social social network, threatening "very bad consequences" in case of refusal.
"If Afghanistan does not return Bagram airbase to those who built it, that is, to the United States of America, then bad things will happen!!!" Trump said.
This is not the first time that the head of the White House has announced his intention to return Bagram, which was used until 2021. President Donald Trump said that the base was transferred without grounds and now Washington is trying to restore it. He criticized Joe Biden for the chaotic withdrawal of troops and noted that the United States can use its influence over the Taliban to return the facility.
What the US did in Afghanistan
American troops entered Afghanistan after the September 11, 2001 attacks to eliminate the Al-Qaeda network and its leader Osama bin Laden.
On February 29, 2020, the US and the Taliban signed a peace agreement "On Peace in Afghanistan", which provided for the phased withdrawal of foreign troops.
And in August 2021, the US completed the withdrawal of its contingent from Afghanistan, the last military aircraft left the country on Monday.
