The US will sell Poland 253 Javelin man-portable anti-tank missile systems (ATGMs) and several thousand missiles for them. The US State Department has approved the sale.
Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz reported this on September 18.
According to him, Washington has agreed to the sale of 253 launchers, more than 2,500 missiles for them, as well as spare parts and personnel training.

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) reported that the cost of supplying Javelin complexes to Poland is about USD 780 million.
In addition to the launchers and missiles for them, the US will provide Poland with missile simulators, battery cooling units, spare parts, tool kits, technical support and transportation services.
"The proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by improving the security of a NATO Ally that is a force for political and economic stability in Europe," the DSCA website says.
The FGM-148 Javelin is a man-portable anti-tank missile system developed by Texas Instruments and Martin Marietta in 1989 as part of a project to replace the then-obsolete M47 Dragon ATGM.
The Javelin is designed to destroy armored vehicles by attacking from above, when a missile with a warhead hits a less protected roof. The ATGM can also be used to destroy low-speed, low-flying air targets, such as helicopters.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on September 9, Poland announced that the country would receive almost EUR 44 billion from the European Union to increase its defense capabilities.
Recall, in June it became known that the Polish defense concern Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa will increase ammunition production fivefold over the next three years.
We also wrote that Poland refused to purchase UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters due to changing realities of modern warfare.
