Polish PZG to increase artillery ammunition production fivefold in three years

Poland will increase the production of artillery shells and tank ammunition fivefold in order to provide the army with protection against the threat from the aggressor country of russia.

According to The Moscow Times, this was stated by the Minister of State Assets of Poland Jakub Jaworowski in an interview with the Financial Times.

He said that currently the Polish defense concern Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PZG) produces 30,000 large-caliber shells annually.

In the next three years, the concern will increase ammunition production fivefold. It is planned that in 2028 it will produce 150,000-180,000 shells.

According to him, the Polish government will allocate PLN 2.4 billion (about USD 663 million) for these purposes.

"Our short-term goal is to significantly increase the production of this type of weapon and become independent of foreign suppliers, creating a stable basis for national autonomy," Jaworowski said.

He added that russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine has shown that 155-mm ammunition "plays a key role on the modern battlefield" and is therefore needed in large quantities.

As Ukrainian News Agency reported, earlier in June, Politico reported that Poland and the Baltic states are preparing for a russian attack. Governments are reviewing security protocols, organizing training for citizens and investing in protective equipment for medics.

As a reminder, it also became known in June that Poland refused to purchase S-70i helicopters for its ground forces due to the changing realities of war.

And in May of this year, the United States agreed to sell Poland anti-aircraft missiles worth USD 1.3 billion.
