Ukraine reduced sugar exports in the 2024/2025 marketing year (September 2024 - August 2025) by 16% compared to the previous marketing year, when the country sent 692,000 tons to foreign markets.
The Ukrsugar association announced this on Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The report states that during the 24/25 marketing year, Ukraine exported 580,000 tons of sugar, which is 32% of the country's production.
According to the report, of the total exports in 2024/25MY, 17% were sent to the EU countries, while 83% to the World market (in 2023/2024MY the ratio was 77% EU, 23% - World market).
It is noted that the main importing countries of Ukrainian sugar in 2024/25MY were: EU - 17%; Turkey - 14%; Libya - 10%; North Macedonia - 8%; Lebanon - 5% and Somalia - 5%.
Among the EU countries, the main buyer of Ukrainian sugar was Bulgaria, where 59% of the total volume went.
Ukrainian farmers have already started harvesting sugar beet for processing in the 2025/26 season.
The specified areas for harvesting are 198,000 hectares.
The forecast for sugar production is 1.5 million tons of sugar.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, this marketing year (from September 1) Ukraine exported over 494,000 tons of sugar (of which 196,600 tons for the period January-April 2025).
Ukraine exported 691,000 tons of sugar in the 2023/2024 marketing year (September 2023 - August 2024).
