Lithuania to turn on sirens when dangerous drones are detected in country's airspace

The Lithuanian authorities have approved a new algorithm for responding to incidents in the airspace, according to which sirens will be turned on in cities in case of identification of dangerous UAVs.

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Lithuania Vladislav Kondratovič made a corresponding statement on the air of LRT.

According to him, two types of alert are provided: red and yellow. The red alert level will be announced if the military establishes that the drone is carrying explosives. The yellow alert level is if the UAV does not pose a danger, but may fly into the territory of the country.

"So, if anything, residents should not be surprised, there may be not only signals on phones, but also sirens and other means," said Kondratovič.

The new algorithm for responding to incidents in the airspace was approved by the Lithuanian authorities last week. It provides that in the event of an attack by the aggressor country russia on Ukraine using UAVs, the Lithuanian military will intensify surveillance. If potentially dangerous drones are detected, they must be ready to neutralize them and immediately inform the population about the danger.

The measures were taken against the backdrop of an incident that occurred in July this year. Then two russian strike drones flew into Lithuanian airspace. One of them was carrying 2 kilograms of explosives.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the day before yesterday, September 3, two drones that the russian army launched over Ukraine flew into Polish airspace. The Polish military did not shoot down the drones.

We will remind, on July 29, the military shot down an unknown drone in Belarus, which was able to fly to the country's capital.
