Hungary's position is not formed abroad, so we are not interested in moscow's opinion on Ukraine's accession to the European Union. The Hungarian people do not want Ukraine to join the EU. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó wrote about this on his Facebook page on Friday, September 5.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with the President of the European Council today and mentioned Hungary, Szijjártó noted. According to Zelenskyy, Hungary's disagreement with the possibility of Ukraine's EU membership is "incomprehensible, since the Russians are not against it either," the Foreign Minister wrote. Hungary's position is not determined from abroad, Szijjártó noted.
"We are not interested in what Moscow thinks about Ukraine's EU membership. We are interested in what the Hungarian people think, and they have expressed their opinion: they do not want Ukraine to be a member of the EU! They do not want Ukrainians to destroy our farmers, our labor market and our security! So, although President Zelenskyy trusts the Russians, we will not support Ukraine's accession to the EU!" emphasized the Hungarian Foreign Minister.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on August 31, Hungary opposed the opening of the first cluster of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union.
On August 27, Lithuania proposed that EU countries start technical negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova on EU accession without Hungary's participation.
On August 25, Szijjártó said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had "threatened" his country.
