Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico supports Ukraine's move to the European Union, and will not be aloof from the security architecture of Europe. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on Friday, September 5, following the meeting with Fico in Uzhhorod.
Zelenskyy noted that he discussed with Fico the conversation with US President Donald Trump on September 4, work with the leaders of the coalition of the willing on peace and security guarantees for Ukraine, and the security architecture for Europe, where Slovakia will not be left out. At the same time, the Slovak Prime Minister spoke about his contacts in China.
"Slovakia supports Ukraine in its move towards the European Union. This is very significant. We also see that Ukraine and Moldova should continue to move together towards membership in the European Union. It is equally important that bilateral cooperation in economic, energy and infrastructure issues here, in our region, strengthens our peoples, our countries," Zelenskyy stressed. The politicians also touched on the issue of Europe's energy independence. "Russian oil, like Russian gas, has no future," the President of Ukraine stressed.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on September 2, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that he would meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday, September 5, to convey "conclusions and messages" after his conversation with russian dictator vladimir putin.
On July 15, Fico announced that the European Commission had offered the country a draft guarantee regarding the planned cessation of russian natural gas supplies to the EU in exchange for voting for the 18th package of sanctions against russia.
Recall that on June 10, Fico announced that Slovakia would not support the introduction of a new package of sanctions against the aggressor country, russia.
