The Democratic Republic of Congo joins the International Coalition for the return of Ukrainian children within the framework of the initiative of the President of Ukraine Bring Kids Back UA. This was reported by the representative of the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo Chantal Chambu Mwavita, the official website of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy writes.
The Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Rights of the Child and Child Rehabilitation Daria Herasymchuk informed Chantal Chambu Mwavita about the actions of the aggressor country towards Ukrainian children, in particular about mass cases of deportation and forced displacement, and also spoke about Ukraine's efforts to return them.
"We share Ukraine's pain for its children, because the children of the Democratic Republic of Congo have been suffering from war for 30 years," said the representative of the Congo government.
Chantal Chambu Mwavita emphasized that Congo is beginning the procedure for joining the International Coalition for the return of Ukrainian children. Thus, the coalition will include 42 countries and the Council of Europe.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on June 10, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy implemented the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) to introduce personal sanctions against persons involved in the abduction of Ukrainian children.
On June 2, Head of the Presidential Office Andrii Yermak reported that during negotiations in Istanbul, Ukraine had handed over to russia a list of Ukrainian children who needed to be returned.
As a reminder, on April 24, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence proposed to the parliament to classify the illegal transfer of children as a war crime.
