Over 25 samples of Ukrainian unmanned aerial interceptor complexes have been approved for use in the Armed Forces, many of which are hunters for enemy strike drones. It was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
"The Ministry of Defense is focusing more efforts and resources on the development and production of effective means of destruction, which are critically needed today. These include, in particular, UAVs with a fiber-optic control channel and drones-interceptors of enemy reconnaissance and strike drones," said First Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Ivan Havryluk.
The department also named the maximum scaling of the production of the most effective weapons among its priority tasks.
The Ministry of Defense also recalls that the fiber-optic channel is a completely protected control channel and video transmission from any means of electronic warfare. Ukrainian fiber-optic UAVs have different designs, can carry different combat loads, and hit enemy targets at different depths of the front. Mass production and use of fiber-optic drones in the army began in 2025.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in April, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that in 2025, more than 20 new certified samples of drones with a fiber-optic control system appeared in Ukraine. 11 enterprises have mastered their production. There is also positive dynamics regarding drones capable of operating over long distances.
In April, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are already receiving fiber-optic drones with a 20-kilometer cable, insensitive to the effects of electronic warfare, and this may deprive the russians of the advantages they currently have.
