Switzerland will grant putin immunity from arrest warrant if he comes to peace talks - Foreign Minister Cassis

Switzerland will grant russian president vladimir putin immunity from an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) if he comes to peace talks in Ukraine, Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis said, Euroactiv reported on Tuesday, August 19.

Cassis said that despite the arrest warrant, his country would grant putin immunity if he came to Switzerland for a diplomatic conference to discuss peace in Ukraine.

"Switzerland is very ready to do this, even at short notice. By the way, I have repeatedly emphasized this readiness in my contacts with russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov over the past few months," Cassis said.

As a reminder, French President Emmanuel Macron suggested Geneva as a possible venue for a bilateral meeting between putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, claiming that the meeting should take place in a "neutral country" in Europe.
