US diplomats have asked Europeans to be ready for a three-way meeting between US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and russian leader vladimir putin this week, Sky News reported on Monday, August 18.
According to the publication, European diplomats are currently divided on the location of a possible three-way meeting between Trump, Zelenskyy and putin. If there are no changes, US and EU allies have agreed that the meeting will take place in Europe.
"Depending on how today's meeting goes, Sky News understands that US colleagues have asked European diplomats to be ready for a three-way meeting between Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and vladimir putin later this week," the report says.
Sky News notes that during the video conference of the "Coalition of the Willing", Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni suggested holding the meeting in Rome, and French President Emmanuel Macron suggested Geneva. The Italian and Swiss foreign ministries insist on their readiness to host the talks, and EU diplomats are also considering other locations, including Budapest and Helsinki.
The publication writes that Zelenskyy and Trump are considering Rome, in particular the Vatican, but putin prefers Geneva.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on August 13, CBS News stated that the United States is working to find a place for a trilateral meeting between US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and russian leader vladimir putin.
On August 18, Zelenskyy arrived in Washington, where he is scheduled to meet with Trump in the evening.
As we will recall, Bloomberg wrote that Trump is determined to reach a peace agreement as soon as possible and is preparing to put pressure on Zelenskyy.
