Russia losing momentum in production of Kh-59 missiles: lack of components, disrupted schedules and "dummies" instead of guidance systems

Russia is unable to fulfill the state defense order for Kh-59M2/M2A aviation missiles due to an acute shortage of components and production restrictions.

This is evidenced by the data of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, published in the "Components in Weapons" section of the War&Sanctions portal.

According to the interactive scheme, 116 enterprises are involved in the production of the Kh-59, almost 40% of which (about 50 companies) are still not under international sanctions. Despite this, the russian defense industry is already facing large-scale problems: a chronic shortage of both its own and foreign element base, insufficient production capacity and regular disruptions to deadlines.

Manufacturers are trying to compensate for the shortage by "cannibalizing" old systems - they are massively dismantling P95 engines and homing heads to use them in new missiles. There are known cases when, instead of active radar homing heads, only large-sized mock-ups were installed on the Kh-59. It is the active radar homing heads that is the most expensive and most problematic component for russian production.

Some enterprises that supply electronics and guidance systems still remain outside the sanctions lists, which allows the russian federation to modernize turbojet engines and extend the service life of these weapons, which are used to strike peaceful cities in Ukraine.

The Defense Intelligence emphasizes: these examples prove that sanctions pressure works. Expanding restrictions on lower-level enterprises can further reduce the pace of production of key russian weapons.

The Kh-59 missile has become the sixth model on the War&Sanctions portal, after the schemes for the Kh-101, S8000 Banderol, the TsBTS.611000 UAV, V2U and Shahed-136 MS.

We will remind you that dozens of enterprises producing Kh-101 missiles, one of which hit the Okhmatdyt hospital, are still not under sanctions.
