Trump, Vance to hold virtual meeting with Zelenskyy ahead of putin summit - media

US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance will take part in a virtual meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European allies ahead of a summit with russian leader vladimir putin.

This was reported by ABC News, citing two American officials.

According to sources, the meeting will take place on Wednesday, August 13, while the White House officially announced that the summit between Trump and putin will take place in Alaska on Friday.

On Tuesday, Zelenskyy said that russia is showing signs that it may want to end the war. He said this after a phone conversation with Trump, White House adviser Steve Witkoff and European leaders.

"During the conversation, a signal was heard from Mr. Witkoff, who also participated in the conversation, that russia was ready to end the war or at least take the first step towards a ceasefire, and that this was the first such signal from their side," Zelenskyy said.

Zelenskyy stressed that there were no demands or specific proposals from the US, only discussions, and it is still unclear to him what exactly russian leader vladimir putin told Witkoff.

The Ukrainian President also said that he was told that since the meeting with him and Trump had already taken place, a meeting between putin and Trump logically followed.

"And then there should be a trilateral meeting - the US, Ukraine and russia," Zelenskyy said.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, meanwhile, russian dictator vladimir putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had a telephone conversation on August 12, in which they talked about the war in Ukraine ahead of the russian leader's planned summit with US President Donald Trump in Alaska.

On August 11, US President Donald Trump explained why he had not tightened sanctions and imposed tariffs against the aggressor country of russia, as he had repeatedly said before.

On August 10, The New York Times reported that the meeting with Trump was an ideal opportunity for putin to end the war on his own terms and split NATO.
