Construction of first NPP begins in Kazakhstan. One of contractors is russian Rosatom

The construction of the country's first nuclear power plant has begun in Kazakhstan. The russian corporation Rosatom will be involved in the construction of the facility, among others.

This was reported by the Kazakh publication Orda.

The nuclear power plant will be built near the settlement of Ulken, near Lake Balkhash. On August 8, ceremonial events were held here in connection with the launch of the project.

The first stage involves drilling at least 50 wells to take soil samples. This is necessary to assess the characteristics of the territories where nuclear power plants will be built in the future.

The preparatory work will be carried out by the subsidiary of the russian Rosatom - the company Atomenergoproekt.

The publication notes that the russian corporation will not be the only contractor for the project. Who will participate in the construction is not yet known. It is clear that it will not be the Chinese CNNC, which will be engaged in the construction of two other nuclear power plants.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in July, it became known that Kazakhstan refused russia's services for the construction of three thermal power plants.

As a reminder, in April of this year, Kazakhstan announced the discovery of a deposit containing about a million tons of rare earth metals.
