Kazakhstan discovers deposit with tons of rare earth elements

Geologists of Kazakhstan studying the subsoil in 2022-2024 discovered several areas with large resources of rare earth metals, which total about a million tons. This was reported by the Ministry of Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan.

The Ministry of Industry of Kazakhstan noted that the discovered rocks are located in the Kuirektikol area, which is located 300 km southeast of Astana, in the Karaganda Oblast. The rocks of this area are an ancient volcanic structure composed of extinct volcanoes and products of their activity, which were later changed by magmatic processes.

"The total forecast resources of rare earth metals of the Zhana Kazakhstan area to a depth of 300 meters amount to over 20.0 million tons, with an average content of the sum of rare earth elements of approximately 700 g/t. There are no analogues of this type of rare earth mineralization in Kazakhstan, which allows it to be attributed to a new industrial type," the report says.

Kazakhstan expects to reach leading global positions if the number and condition of rare earth deposits are confirmed, and to develop a high-tech rare earth metals industry.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, France has been negotiating the use of Ukrainian minerals for its defense industry since October 2024.

On February 12, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said that his country should think about how to attract American investments in rare earth metals.
