Modi sends top officials to moscow amid Trump's tariff threats – Bloomberg

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent two of his closest aides to russia amid threats from US President Donald Trump to impose tariffs on Indian goods.

Bloomberg reported this with reference to its own sources on Tuesday, August 5.

The agency's unnamed interlocutors said that Modi sent his national security adviser Ajit Doval and foreign minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar to moscow.

Earlier, Indian media confirmed that Doval was going to moscow for talks with the russian leadership.

According to Bloomberg, the trips of Doval and Jaishankar are part of annual consultations and were planned in advance. However, they are now taking place against the backdrop of growing tensions in relations between India and the United States.

The US President has threatened India with a 25% tariff on Indian goods for refusing to purchase russian oil. New Delhi imports large amounts of "black gold" from russia, financing the war against Ukraine.

The Indian authorities reject accusations of financing the russian military machine. New Delhi called the statements of the US and the European Union "unfounded" and "unreasonable". They also stated that Western countries also buy russian energy resources, providing moscow with large revenues.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on August 4, US President Donald Trump said that he would impose a 25% tariff on India, since it buys a lot of russian oil, thereby financing the war against Ukraine.
