The Indian government has not instructed state-owned oil refining companies to stop buying russian oil. The country's authorities are still considering imposing such a ban.
Bloomberg has reported this, citing its own sources.
The agency's unnamed interlocutors said that the Indian authorities have not yet imposed a ban on buying oil from russia. State and private refineries can continue to buy russian "black gold".
Bloomberg's interlocutors added that the country's government is trying to maintain the ability to buy cheap russian oil without incurring the wrath of US President Donald Trump.
In the event of refusing russian oil, India will be forced to import it from Middle Eastern countries. Their oil is more expensive, which will lead to higher costs.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on July 31, Reuters wrote that Indian state-owned oil refining companies had allegedly suspended purchases of russian oil.
Also on that day, media outlets reported that Indian refiners had been instructed to develop a plan to abandon oil from russia and replace it with grades from other countries.
The next day, on August 1, Bloomberg reported that since the beginning of this week, the Indian Oil Corporation had bought 7 million barrels of oil from the United States and the UAE.
As a reminder, US President Donald Trump confirmed that India's largest oil refinery had purchased American oil.
