Indian state-owned refiners halt russian oil purchases — Reuters

Indian state-owned refiners Indian Oil Corp (IOC), Mangalore Refinery Petrochemical Ltd (MRPL), Bharat Petroleum Corp (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp (HPCL) have halted purchases of russian oil.

The Moscow Times reports this with reference to Reuters.

According to the agency, the above-mentioned companies halted purchases of russian oil last week.

The reason for this was US President Donald Trump's threat to impose tariffs on countries that buy oil from russia and reduce discounts.

Unnamed sources told Reuters that IOC, MRPL, BPCL and HPCL have suspended the publication of requests for the purchase of russian oil.

According to them, the companies have turned to spot markets to replace russian oil. They are considering grades of "black gold" from the United Arab Emirates and West African countries.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on July 28, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the European Union could significantly reduce its purchases of oil and gas from russia as part of a new trade agreement with the United States.

As a reminder, on July 21, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that any country that buys oil from russia could face 100% US tariffs.
