Republican Senators Roger Wicker and Jim Risch have introduced the Peace Act bill, which provides for the creation of a special fund under the US Treasury Department to purchase weapons for Ukraine at the expense of contributions from allies. This is reported by The Wall Street Journal.
According to the new scheme, funds for the fund should mainly come from European partners, in particular Germany and the UK. It is planned that the annual budget of the fund could be USD 5-8 billion. This money will be used to finance the supply of American weapons to Ukraine and replenish US arsenals.
As Wicker explained, the Peace Act should make the process of transferring military aid faster and more efficient, while simultaneously strengthening the security of the US and NATO in the confrontation with russia.
According to the publication, the bill has already received positive feedback during preliminary consultations at the White House. It is expected to be put to a vote by the end of 2025 as part of the annual defense bill being prepared by the Senate Armed Services Committee.
