Turkey has unveiled its most powerful GAZAP air bomb at the International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF) 2025 in Istanbul, which is capable of penetrating three times stronger concrete than nuclear power plants. Hurriyet Daily News reported this on Monday, July 28.
According to the publication, the air bomb was developed by the Turkish Ministry of National Defense. The warhead weighs 970 kilograms, and the air bomb itself can be dropped from an F-16 fighter. According to a Turkish official, it is "the best bunker buster in the industry."
"Normally, in nuclear power plants, U.S.-made missiles penetrate 2.4 m (7.8 ft) of C35 (standard concrete). NEB-2 penetrates 7 meters of C50 (three times stronger concrete than in nuclear power plants)," the official also said.
In addition, the explosion, which usually lasts 25 milliseconds, was accelerated to 240 ms, which makes the air bomb more destructive, the publication writes. The diameter of the affected zone reaches 160 meters.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on July 23, the Turkish company Roketsan presented its first hypersonic ballistic missile Tayfun Block 4.
