US, China holding second day of trade talks – Reuters

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng are holding a second day of talks to resolve economic issues regarding a trade deal, Reuters reported on Tuesday, July 29.

The second day of talks between the world's two largest economies is underway in Stockholm. According to the publication, the meeting of US and Chinese officials may not be a "breakthrough", but the parties may agree on another extension of the tariff truce for 90 days.

"China is well aware of its strong negotiating position, as could clearly be seen in the temporary escalation observed in April. But over Europe always hangs the Damocles sword of the U.S. withdrawing its security guarantee, and that is why the EU did not escalate the situation like China did," the material says.

This meeting may also become the basis for preliminary agreements on a potential meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping this year.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on April 9, US President Donald Trump increased tariffs on China to 125% and announced a 90-day pause for other countries.

On May 11, the White House announced the conclusion of a trade agreement with China.
