In January-June 2025, salt imports to Ukraine decreased by 45.88% compared to the same period last year to 211,692 tons (January-June 2024 391,186 tons).
The Interfax-Ukraine news agency has announced this, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
According to statistics published by the State Customs Service (SCS), the cost of purchasing salt on foreign markets in the first half of 2025 decreased by 48.46% - to USD 26.919 million compared to USD 52.225 million for the same period in 2024.
The report says that the main suppliers of salt to Ukraine in January-June were Egypt, which accounted for 46.09% of supplies, which in monetary equivalent amounted to USD 12.407 million, Turkey (17.57% and USD 4.730 million) and Romania (13.41% and USD 3.611 million).
A year earlier, the TOP-3 suppliers of salt were similar: Egypt (54.89% for USD 28.668 million), Turkey (17.15% for USD 8.956 million) and Romania (14.69% for USD 7.671 million).
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the state-owned enterprise Drohobych Salt Distillery (Lviv Region) doubled its salt production in 2022 to 500 tons compared to 2021.
The Artemsil state enterprise (Soledar, Donetsk Region) was the largest enterprise for the extraction, processing and sale of rock salt in Central and Eastern Europe. In May 2022, due to hostilities, Artemsil stopped its work, and the enterprise is currently located in the territory occupied by russia.
