Ostchem plants reduce fertilizer production by 7.5% to 850,000 tons in H1, 2025

In the first half of 2025, the plants of the Ostchem nitrogen holding reduced fertilizer production by 7.47% to 849,900 tons compared to the same period last year, when 918,500 tons were produced.

This is indicated in a statement by Group DF, which includes Ostchem, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

Cherkasy Azot reduced production output by 21% to 567,100 tons compared to the same period last year.

However, Rivneazot increased production output by 40.9% to 282,700 tons compared to the same period last year (the first half of 2024 was 200,700 tons).

The overall decline in production is explained by forced shutdowns of equipment at Cherkasy Azot in the first quarter of 2025, as well as unstable energy supplies.

During this period, the holding promptly redistributed production loads between plants, increasing fertilizer output at Rivneazot.

The report states that the production structure has changed somewhat compared to last year.

In the first half of the year, the largest amount of ammonium nitrate was produced – 355,700 tons.

Last year, this figure was 362,900 tons.

In second place was urea ammonium nitrate (UAN), the production volume of which was 308,900 tons.

In this segment, the share of Ukrainian production remains at a high level due to the logistical advantages of Ukrainian producers.

Urea follows with 138,300 tons (183,600 tons last year).

A small share of production falls on lime ammonium nitrate (LAN) – 16,200 tons, and ammonia – 22,600 tons.

Against the background of a decrease in domestic production, the flow of uncontrolled cheap imports into Ukraine continues to grow: in the first half of the year, 1.5 million tons of traditional fertilizers (nitrogen and complex) were imported into Ukraine, of which 828,000 tons were nitrogen fertilizers.

At the same time, imports of ammonium nitrate amounted to 190,000 tons (176,600 tons last year), urea – 379,600 tons (311,300 tons), and UAN – 61,490 tons (50,800 tons).

It is noted that for the first time, the volume of urea imports more than doubled the volume of Ukrainian production, which is an alarming signal for the entire industry and requires systemic solutions.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in the first quarter of 2025, the plants of the Ostchem nitrogen holding increased fertilizer production by 5.3% to 529,300 tons compared to the same period last year, when 502,800 tons were produced.

The Ostchem holding unites the nitrogen chemistry enterprises of Group DF.

Group DF is a diversified international group of companies, whose business is represented in 11 countries in Europe and Asia.

The main areas of activity of the group are nitrogen, titanium and gas businesses.
