The National Bank is considering the possibility of gradually withdrawing 10-kopeck coins from cash circulation.
This is stated in the NBU message, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

Currently, there are about 5.5 billion pieces of circulation coins in cash circulation: 1.4 billion pieces of 50-kopeck coins; 4.1 billion pieces of 10-kopeck coins.
Every year, the National Bank must support circulation and support banks and the trade and services sector with circulation coins.
In particular, in 2025, it is planned to mint 20 million new 50-kopeck coins, since cash circulation requires this.
So, if the 50-kopeck coin remains in steady demand, in particular from the trade sector, then the 10-kopeck coin has ceased to play a significant role in cash payments for goods and services.
The NBU notes that the decision to gradually withdraw 10-kopeck coins will reduce the costs of the state and participants in cash circulation for the production, processing, transportation, storage and circulation of such coins.
In this regard, the National Bank proposes to begin the gradual withdrawal of 10-kopeck coins from cash circulation from October 1, 2025.
Accordingly, the minting of 10-kopeck coins and their replenishment of cash circulation (additional issue) will cease.
However, these exchange coins will continue to remain in circulation (until the National Bank makes a separate decision on their final withdrawal).
Ukrainian banks will be able to accept 10-kopeck coins from citizens and businesses for crediting to accounts, deposits, letters of credit and for performing payment transactions.
At the same time, once in banks, such coins will no longer be returned to circulation, but will be withdrawn and transferred to the National Bank for further transfer and disposal.
In addition, these change coins will continue to function as a means of payment in the retail network: if the buyer has 10-kopeck coins, he will be able to continue paying with them, and if the seller has such coins, he will be able to give the buyer change in this denomination.
At the same time, if during cash transactions there are no coins in denominations of 10 kopecks, it is proposed to apply the rules for rounding total amounts in the check (previously, similar rounding rules began to be applied during the withdrawal of coins in denominations of 1, 2, 5 and 25 kopecks from circulation).
Thus, from October 1, 2025, during cash payments for goods (works, services), it is proposed to round total amounts in the check according to the following rules:
- an amount ending in 1 to 24 kopecks - is rounded down to the nearest amount ending in 00 kopecks;
- an amount ending in 25 to 49 kopecks - is rounded up to 50 kopecks;
- an amount ending in 51 to 74 kopecks - is rounded down to 50 kopecks;
- the amount ending in 75 to 99 kopecks - is rounded up to the nearest amount ending in 00 kopecks.
During non-cash payments, rounding will not be performed, as is the case when rounding to amounts multiples of 10 kopecks, which is currently in effect in Ukraine since 2018.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, from August 2024, the National Bank began withdrawing from circulation 500 hryvnia banknotes of the 2003-2007 model.
