The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha has called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue arrest warrants for all those guilty of the deliberate killing of Ukrainian prisoners of war in Olenivka (Donetsk Region). He wrote about this on X.
Sybiha recalled that on July 29, 2022, russia deliberately killed more than 50 Ukrainian prisoners of war and injured more than 150 others as a result of a planned terrorist act.
"These were the defenders of Ukraine who laid down their arms and should have been protected by international humanitarian law. We call on the International Criminal Court to issue arrest warrants for all responsible persons - from the direct perpetrators to the Russian command, which ordered and covered up this crime," the Minister wrote.
He also stressed the urgent need to support the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine.
"Only by addressing the root cause of the crime — Russia's unprovoked war — will we be able to ensure full accountability for the countless crimes it has committed. The world must not forget and must not look away. Justice for Olenivka is not an option — it is a moral and legal imperative," added Sybiha.
As a reminder, UN experts have established that the terrorist attack in the colony in Olenivka in July 2022 was organized by the russian ministry of defense with the participation of the russian armed forces.
