Germany is preparing to ship the IRIS-T air defense system to Ukraine and is ready to jointly build additional air defense systems with Ukrainian manufacturers.
This was announced by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Oleksii Makeyev during a conversation with Ukrainian journalists in Kyiv on July 24, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
He stated that the IRIS-T air defense systems needed by Ukraine continue to be supplied by Germany.
"Seven systems have already arrived, the eighth is coming," Makeyev reported.
In addition, the Ambassador noted that the German Gepard system has successfully proven itself in Ukraine, in particular, it has a high level of effectiveness, primarily against Shahed drones. However, he noted, the tactics of using the Shahed by the russians have changed, which makes it difficult to hit targets.
"We have been supplied with more than 60 Gepards. That is, most of the Gepards that could be caught in the forests of the whole world have already been caught, and they are grazing in Ukrainian pastures," the Ambassador said.
Makeyev also noted the Rheinmetall Skynex anti-aircraft artillery complex, which is showing good results in service with the Air Force. According to the Ambassador, Ukraine will continue to work on the supply of these systems.
"Moreover, there are already initial ideas between representatives of the defense industry of Ukraine and Germany to jointly build additional air defense systems. That is, take a gun from Rheinmetall, put it on a different chassis, and also incorporate missile systems," Makeyev explained.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, The Telegraph reported that the Patriot air defense system and additional interceptors have already arrived in Ukraine thanks to an agreement with Germany.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Ukraine has received confirmation from partners regarding the provision of three Patriot air defense systems, and negotiations are underway to receive seven more.
